What Does ASK2B1 Mean?
ASK2B1 is a traditional Masonic expression meaning "Ask to Be One." Masons can answer questions, welcome visitors, and explain the fraternity, but the interested man must begin the process voluntarily.
Is Freemasonry Right for You?
Consider these requirements and qualities of a prospective member:
An adult man seeking membership voluntarily and without pressure
Of good moral character and interested in personal growth
A believer in a Supreme Being
Able to meet applicable age, residency, and character requirements
Respectful of men from different backgrounds and faiths
Prepared to make time for meetings, education, fellowship, and service
Freemasonry does not promise wealth, business advantage, political influence, or special favors.
1
Ask for Information
Contact East Fork Lodge, speak with a Mason, or visit. A man does not need to already know a Mason. He should explain what interests him and ask every question he has.
4
Complete and Submit the Petition
Complete it honestly and return it to the lodge. The lodge will explain any required fees. The petition is formally received and read during a stated meeting.
Petitioning is a serious request, not a purchase or automatic enrollment. Every petition is considered according to the laws and procedures of the Grand Lodge of Texas and East Fork Lodge.
The Path to Membership
This is the general process described by the Grand Lodge of Texas. East Fork Lodge will explain its current local procedures, requirements, and fees.
2
Visit the Lodge
Meet the men of East Fork and decide whether the lodge feels like the right fit. Visitors may join us for dinner on Tuesdays at 6:00 PM. Contact the lodge before the first visit so members can welcome him.
5
The Investigation
The Worshipful Master assigns three lodge members to meet with the petitioner, ask standard questions, and learn about his background, character, reasons for joining, and understanding of the commitment. They may arrange to meet at his home. Petitioners are not expected to be perfect, but they should be open and honest.
7
After the Ballot
A lodge member contacts the petitioner with the result. If favorable, the lodge schedules the next step and provides the instructions he will need.
3
Request a Petition
When ready, ask for a petition for the degrees of Masonry. The petition requires signatures from several Masons. If the petitioner does not know enough members yet, the lodge will explain how to proceed.
6
The Ballot
The investigators return their reports and recommendations. At a stated meeting, eligible members vote by secret ballot according to Masonic law.
What to Expect When You Visit
A first visit is relaxed and carries no pressure or obligation. Formal lodge meetings and private ceremonies are not open to the public. We encourage visitors to ask about the lodge’s values, family and time commitments, community service, costs, and expectations.
Every Tuesday • Dinner at 6:00 PM • Meeting at 7:00 PM • Stated Meeting: First Tuesday of each month.
